Finding the right listing
Use search filters to narrow results to your budget, condition preference, and location.
- Filter by condition (New / Used / Refurbished)
- Set a price range to avoid wading through out-of-budget listings
- Filter by "Private Seller" or "Dealer" depending on what you prefer
- Save your search to get notified when new matching listings appear
Assessing a listing
Before reaching out, read the description carefully and look at all photos.
- Check when the listing was posted — older listings may no longer be available
- Look at the seller's other active ads to gauge their legitimacy
- If photos look stock or professional, ask for real photos of the actual item
- Use the Price Insight widget to check if the price is fair compared to similar listings
Negotiating
Many prices on Open Bazaar are negotiable. A polite, reasonable offer is usually welcomed.
- Research the item's market value before negotiating
- Start with a fair offer — lowballing can offend sellers and end the conversation
- Point out genuine flaws as justification for a lower price
- Be ready to move quickly if the price is agreed — good deals sell fast
The safe exchange
Meeting a stranger requires care. Follow these steps for every in-person transaction.
- Meet in a public location — never at a private home for a first meeting
- Bring a friend for high-value purchases
- Test or inspect the item before paying — plug in electronics, try on clothes
- Pay only after you are satisfied — never before
